About Peter Jakel

Peter Jakel, president and founder of Jakel Communications, learned from an early age that values matter. Growing up in a rough neighborhood in Aurora, Colo., his mother and father instilled in him a no-compromise style of values. To them, there were ways people were supposed to live: work hard, be kind to others, tell the truth and be genuine. Those values have served him well during his15 years of experience in the communications discipline, as a journalist, public relations professional and internal corporate communications associate. In his early years, during college and immediately after college, Jakel wrote daily articles for mid-to-large sized newspapers in Denver and Boulder, Colo., not far from where he grew up in Aurora, Colo.

Choosing to reinvent himself and take a different career path, Jakel honed his editing, writing, online writing and project management skills as an associate editor for a trade publication and an Internet editor for a large non-profit in Colorado. Jakel became communications manager for Einstein Noah Restaurant Group in June 2004, which is when he learned the internal communications trade first hand with the help of extremely talented mentors and professionals. While at the organization deemed the nation's largest operator of bagel bakeries, Jakel branched out into public relations and customer service, serving as the organization's head of media relations, spokesperson during crises and manager of the customer service team. This is also when Jakel began experimenting with social media communication tools, starting with Facebook.

In 2008, Jakel was named communications manager at Archstone and later promoted to communications director. As the head of corporate communications for the organization, Jakel was responsible for public relations and media relations, internal corporate communications, social media strategy and execution, reputation management, resident relations and much more. Jakel with the help of a number of talented associates developed the organization's strategy for responding to online customer reviews, as well as the social media campaign strategy to utilize Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and a corporate blog to support leasing efforts and search engine optimization.
